SPORTS SHORTS: ISU’s Burton invited to Portsmouth

AMES — Iowa State senior Deonte Burton will attend the 2017 Portsmouth Invitational in April, representing one of eight different teams in the field.

Burton was named to the All-Big 12 third-team selection, as he averaged career-highs with 15.1 points per game, 6.2 rebounds per game, while posting 60 steals and 49 blocks (both team-bests).

He’s the second player in ISU history to record 40 blocks and 40 steals in a season, while becoming the fourth player in Big 12 history to averaged 15 points, 60 steals and 40 blocks in a season.

Burton posted 1,000-career points during the Big 12 Tournament and had five of his six double-doubles in his time at Iowa State. Burton was also an All-Big 12 second-team selection from the Associated Press.

The P.I.T. invites 64 of the best college seniors to Portsmouth, Virginia each year, to play in a four-day, 12-game tournament in front of NBA scouts and representatives.

Former players Jameel McKay and Abdel Nader played in last year’s P.I.T.
