Gardner’s best time helps MHS score fourth

CEDAR FALLS — The Marshalltown girls’ track and field team posted a few lifetime bests on its way to a fourth-place finish with 60 team points at the Tiger Invitational on Tuesday.

Freshman Kierra Gardner was the leading scorer for the Bobcats with 12 points, as she set a lifetime best in the 200-meter dash, running a 26.79 second race. Gardner was also fourth in the 100 dash (13.51).

Malory Henze took first-place honors in the discus, throwing 117 feet, 10 inches for a lifetime best mark as well. Henze’s throw moves her up two spots to the seventh-best throw in Class 4A, according to Quikstats.

Grace Metzger also had a personal record in the discus, throwing 104 feet. She was third in the event.

Regan Mazour was third in the high jump at 5 feet and Mia Barajas ran a lifetime best of 6:03.25 in the 1,500, taking fifth overall.

Cedar Falls won the meet with 215 points and Waverly-Shell Rock and Waterloo West tied with 101.5 points for second.
