MHS netters make quick work of Des Moines East

Jacob Rachuy and Luke Smith

DES MOINES — It was all Bobcats on Tuesday afternoon as the Marshalltown boys’ tennis team blanked Des Moines East 11-0. It’s the second time this season the triumphant Bobcats scored double-digit match wins.

The Bobcats (2-1) didn’t allow the opposition to win more than three sets in singles play. Marshalltown’s No. 1 Luke McKibben defeated East’s Wes Weichman 6-2, 6-3. Luke Smith dispensed Ryan Tron 6-0, 6-1. Jacob Rachuy bested Jerry Jones 6-2, 6-1. Sean McWilliams claimed a 6-0, 6-1 match from Jordan Jack. Sam Brintnall also won his match 6-0, 6-1 against Victor Burns. Jack Gruening won his match 6-1, 6-1 against Thai Pham.

Doubles play was much of the same. McKibben and McWilliams topped Jones and Weichman 6-2, 6-0. Smith and Rachuy defeated Burns and Anthony Cooper 6-1, 6-0. Brintnall and Brennin Davis took their match against Pham and Tron 6-1, 6-1. Gruening and Jacob Eberle scored a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Jack and Logan Robinson. Joe Kennedy and Kadin Skala rounded out doubles with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Eh Taw Bo and Psalm Amos.
