New school record for Richardson
NEWTON — Maddux Richardson continued to impress spectators and athletes alike as he threw a new Marshalltown High School record in the shot put at 60 feet, 4 inches Thursday at the Newton Cardinal Co-Ed Invite.
The old record was set by Derrick Barker at 58-9 1/2 in 1976, making Richardson the first athlete in school history to throw 60-plus feet. The throw is the sixth-best in all classes, and third-best in Class 4A.
Richardson also threw a season-best in the discus, finishing second with a toss of 147-7.
Luke Pedersen took fifth for the Bobcats in the 1,600-meter run, clocking a 5 minute, 0.92 second mile. Three different relay teams took top places at the invite, with the 4×100 (45.51), 4×200 (1:36.42) and 4×800 (8:53.49) all taking fourth.
Noah DeVenney also took sixth in the long jump, going for 18-9 1/2.
