SPORTS SHORTS: Youth boys basketball camp in June

There will be a boys’ youth basketball camp at the Roundhouse, June 6-9 for boys entering grades 4-12 in 2017-18.

Grades 9-12 will work out from 9-11 a.m., while the fourth- through eighth-graders will go from 12:30-3 p.m.

MHS boys’ head coach Scott Smith will be the camp director with other staff and players assisting throughout. Skills taught at the camp will include ball handling, passing, defense, rebouding, shooting, one-one-one, three-on-three and five-on-five competitions, free throw and hot shot competitions and 3-point shooting.

Cost of entry is $50 per person before June 1 and $60 after June 1. Make all checks payable to ‘Boys Basketball Camp’ at 1311 Larkfield Ct., Marshalltown, 50158.

Medals for local Straight Shooters

The Central Iowa Straight Shooters competed in a pair of divisions on April 17 at the Marshalltown Gun Club, hosted by South Hardin.

An intermediate squad comprised of Tucker Wall, Dawson Kitzman and Keaton Woosley (BCLUW), Blaedyn Benscoter (Marshalltown) and Adyn Moore (East Marshall) took first place in the intermediate division with 219 birds.

Individual medalists included Kitzman who hit 48-of-50 birds. Woosley was second with a 46-for-50 mark.

In the senior division, Brianna Heltibridle of Grundy Center took first among individuals with a 47-for-50 mark, tying AGWSR’s Mollie Abkes, who also shot 47-of-50. In a shoot-off, Heltibridle won, tallying 24-of-25 birdies.

Hartliep aces again at Elmwood

Gill Hartliep landed his fourth-career hole-in-one at Elmwood Country Club on Wednesday, as he found the cup on No. 12. The 120-yard shot was witnessed by Mike Bloom, Jim Bowman, Ken Lyons and Steve Radosevich.
