Reivers oust MCC from Region XI tournament

CENTERVILLE — A five-run seventh inning was enough for top-seeded Iowa Western Community College to end the Marshalltown Community College baseball team’s season in a 12-6 loss at the NJCAA Division I Region XI tournament on Saturday.

The Tigers (20-33) had their work cut out for them as they were down 4-0 heading into the fourth inning.

Adam Barrett (4-2) went to the mound for MCC first, not recording an out before giving up a hit and two runs. Brett Braida came in to relieve Barrett, making it six more innings, giving up nine hits and four earned runs.

Diogen Ceballos clocked a two-run homer in the seventh to get the Tigers within 7-6. Ceballos was 3-for-5 on the day with two RBIs and two runs scored. Peyton Stephens led off, going 2-for-5, and Kaleb Hanks was 2-for-4.

Jake Brumbaugh got two outs, JJ Stephens got one and Joel Rosauer pitched the eighth. The three relievers gave up a collective eight hits and five earned runs as MCC’s season ended.

Eighth-ranked Iowa Western will face Indian Hills today at noon today for the Region XI Championship.
