No. 14 Rams make quick work of Cats

PLEASANT HILL — It’s been a rocky road back into the Central Iowa Metropolitan League for the Marshalltown softball team.

The Bobcats dropped their sixth-straight on Thursday, getting blanked in both games of a doubleheader at Class 5A No. 14 Southeast Polk, 10-0 in five innings and 12-0 in three innings.

Marshalltown (2-18) came up with four hits in the opening game, but none of them yielded more than a single. Regan Mazour, Ciara Feldman, Erica Johnson and Bridget Carroll had the Bobcats’ hits.

Abby Brennecke lasted 3 1/3 innings in the circle for MHS, and Kailee Pollard got four outs before Southeast Polk ended the game by the mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth. Brennecke walked five and hit two batters, allowing five hits and three earned runs in the loss.

In the nightcap, Southeast Polk senior Kailie Hesner pitched a three-inning no-hitter as the Rams ran away with a 12-0 triumph.

Camrey Leo hit a two-run home run off MHS starter McKaylee Dawson, who got two outs before giving way to Brennecke in the bottom of the first. The Rams scored nine times in their first at-bat and added three more against Brennecke in the second.

Marshalltown is back out on the road tonight, taking on 4A No. 10 Boone on the Toreadors’ home turf.
