UNI’s Ferch, Williams get academic honors

Duncan Ferch and Peyton Williams

CEDAR FALLS — Two former area preps have received academic honors as members of the University of Northern Iowa’s football program.

Junior linebacker Duncan Ferch and redshirt freshman tight end Peyton Williams were both named to the 2016-17 Missouri Valley Football Conference’s Honor Roll, while Ferch also was a recipient of the Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award, which requires a minimum grade-point average of 3.2 for the previous two semesters.

Honor roll recipients must have posted a minimum 3.0 GPA for the fall 2016 term as full-time students and members of the football team.

Ferch, a 2014 West Marshall High School graduate, saw action in all 11 games and started nine at linebacker for the Panthers last fall. He finished fourth on the team with 60 tackles to go along with two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

Williams, a 2016 Marshalltown High School graduate, redshirted in his first fall with the UNI football program.
