BURNSVILLE, Minn. — Southwest Minnesota State University senior quarterback Blake Gimbel was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time in his career after the Mustangs’ 51-35 win Thursday night at MSU-Moorhead.

Gimbel, a 2013 Marshalltown High School graduate, completed 32-of-44 passes for 389 yards and matched his career-high with five touchdown passes with no interceptions. He also punted twice for a 48.5-yard average with both punts stopping inside the opponents’ 10-yard-line.

This performance marked Gimbel’s eighth career 300-yard passing game, which ranks fourth in school history. He enters this Saturday’s home game against Minot State ranking first at SMSU in completion percentage (67.2), third in completions (653), fourth in passing yards (7,089) and fourth in passing touchdowns (58).
