Gruening, Pedersen pace ’Cats at Valley Invite

WEST DES MOINES — Marshalltown cross country traveled down to compete in the Tom Karpan Invite on Tuesday afternoon, with the Bobcat girls taking eighth as a team in their race and the MHS boys finishing 10th.

Mary Kate Gruening was the high-finisher on the day for the girls, taking 38th with a time of 23:26. Aida Almanza and Kaci Uhde each came in close behind her with a 24:08 a piece, with Almanza just nudging out Uhde to finish in 52nd.

On the boys side, Luke Pedersen was the top finisher with an 18:33, good enough for 42nd, while Javier Rodriguez finished in 59th, Eli Thiesen in 68th and Zach Bitker in 70th.

The Bobcats are off until next Tuesday when they run in the Cardinal Invite in Newton.
