PREP FOOTBALL: Mustangs march to second win at home

LE GRAND — East Marshall improved to 2-0 at home on the season with a 40-7 win over Waterloo Columbus on Friday night.

The Mustangs (2-1) scored 22 points in the opening frame to kick off the action against the Sailors (0-2) on their way to a 28-7 halftime lead.

Dillon Lee paced East Marshall on the ground 68 yards on 17 attempts, but it was the passing game that got it done for the Mustangs on the night. Tyler DeBondt went 17-24 for 273 yards and four scores, while Logan Nicholson caught nine of those balls for 138 yards and two scores.

Defensively, Noah Bandstra yet again led the way with eight solo tackles and five tackle assists, while the Mustangs forced an interception and two fumbles from Waterloo Columbus.

North Tama 36, BCLUW 14

CONRAD — BCLUW football fell to 1-1 on Friday night when it lost its home opener to North Tama 36-14.

Quarterback Brad Barkema was 10-17 through the air with 144 yards. Blake Mann and Jack Garber each had a touchdown run in the game in the fourth and first quarter, respectively. Mann was the leading tackler with 10, while Troy Dolphin had a fumble recovery.

Colo-NESCO 76, Coon Rapids-Bayard 44

COLO — Colo-NESCO opened up its home schedule with a win on Friday, taking down Coon Rapids-Bayard 76-44.

Garrett Packer led the Royals in rushing with 243 yards on the ground on 19 carries and six touchdowns. Packer was also the leading passer, throwing for 61 yards and a touchdown.

Bryce Niemeyer had three solo tackles and 13 assisted tackles defensively, while Packer had four solo tackles and 9 assists.
