SPORTS SHORTS: Grundy Center defeats Cougars in three

GRUNDY CENTER — The Class 2A No. 3 Grundy Center volleyball team continued its undefeated start to the season with a three-set win over Sumner-Fredericksburg on Tuesday, 25-17, 25-11, 25-15.

Brooke Flater and Kylie Willis combined to lead the Spartans offensively with nine kills each, while Emerson Kracht and Landry Luhring each had five. Sydney Matthews led the way in assists with 12.

Defensively, Kyah Luhring had six digs while Landry Luhring and Willis both had five. Flater also had four total blocks in the win.

Redhawks sweep Colo-NESCO netters

TRAER — The North Tama volleyball team earned its first win in Iowa Star Conference South Division play on Tuesday with a sweep of Colo-NESCO, 25-18, 25-8, 25-10.

The Redhawks were led by Katie Kopriva and Karly Jans offensively, who had 15 and 13 kills respectively. Isabel Sierra was the top assister for North Tama with 15, and Takoa Kopriva had 12 digs defensively.

Molly Barten was the top attacker for Colo-NESCO with four kills, followed by Riley Reischauer and Emma Sarver with three kills each. Sarver also led in digs with eight.
