SPORTS SHORTS: MCC men’s soccer beats Hawkeye 5-1

WATERLOO — The NJCAA Division I No. 13 Marshalltown Community College soccer team earned a road win on Tuesday, traveling to take down the RedTails from Hawkeye Community College 5-1.

Five different Tigers scored in the match, with Evandro Resende starting things off early with his goal coming just 20 seconds after the opening kick. Eneko Lasheras, Kino Ryosuke, Manoel dos Passos and Taiki Kinugawa all also found the back of the net for MCC.

Juan Gonzalez had three saves on the day at goalie, while Ryosuke led the team with three shots on goal and the Tigers led the RedTails in corner kicks 9-0.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday with a home match against No. 8 Iowa Western. The game is slated for a 2 p.m. opening kick.

GMG volleyball sweeps Valley Lutheran

CEDAR FALLS — The GMG volleyball team rolled to a three-set sweep of Valley Lutheran on Tuesday night to open Iowa Star Conference South Division play, 29-27, 25-20, 26-24.

The win was the first sweep victory in a best-of-three match this year for the Wolverines (4-8, 1-0).

Peyton Gallentine had 11 kills to lead the GMG attack, while Madi Krull had 20 assists against the Crusaders (0-3, 0-1).

GMG hosts Colo-NESCO for another division match on Thursday in Garwin.
