Washington claims dual victory over Bobcat girls

Zoe Beals and Alli Trowbridge

Cedar Rapids Washington went home with wins in 10 of 12 events in a 127-57 dual meet victory over the Marshalltown girls’ swimming and diving team on Thursday night.

The visiting Warriors won 10 of 11 swimming events, save for the 50-yard freestyle, and came away with the lopsided triumph. Washington claimed the top two spots in two of three relay races and swept the top three in the 100 breaststroke.

Marshalltown’s wins came in consecutive events, as Zoe Beals broke up Washington’s dominant start to the meet with her victory in the 50 free. She clocked in at 26.31 seconds, but was chased to the wall by three Warrior swimmers.

Alli Trowbridge made it back-to-back for the Bobcats by winning the diving competition, scoring 241.45 points to outdistance Washington runner-up Ayla Taylor (223.65). Sami Trowbridge took third (194.45) and Hannah Taylor picked up fourth place (134.60) for MHS.

The Bobcats go out on the road twice next week, visiting Dowling Catholic on Tuesday and Grinnell on Thursday.
