ISU’s Lanning awarded for his Ironman performance
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Iowa State senior linebacker and quarterback Joel Lanning was named the Walter Camp FBS National Defensive Player of the Week, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced Sunday.
Lanning played on both sides of the ball in the Cyclones’ 38-31 upset win over No. 3 Oklahoma on Saturday, totalling 78 snaps. He participated in 57 plays on defense, 13 on offense and eight more on special teams.
Lanning finished with eight tackles, a quarterback sack and a fumble recovery on defense. Offensively, Lanning was 2-for-3 passing for 25 yards and had nine carries for 35 yards.
Lanning currently ranks sixth in the nation with 10.8 tackles per game.
