North Tama volleyball moves to regional finals

Redhawks get to within one win of state

TRAER — The No. 8 North Tama volleyball team survived its Class 1A Region 4 semifinal matchup on Thursday, coming all the way back from an 0-2 deficit to defeat No. 11 Montezuma in five sets, 23-25, 19-25, 25-17, 25-5, 15-13.

The Redhawks (28-7) had not lost at home prior to Thursday, and they gave a heroic effort to maintain that undefeated home record with the comeback against the Braves (31-6).

North Tama now moves on to the regional finals, where they take on a 21-13 Coon Rapids-Bayard team that beat CAM in its regional semifinal in four sets.

The Crusaders have one state trip under their belt from 2008, while the Redhawks have never made a state volleyball tournament appearance.

Their game to determine the Region 4 state representative will be played in Nevada on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
