SPORTS SHORTS: Redhawk volleyball tops Warriors in 3

MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT — The Class 1A No. 8 North Tama volleyball team won an Iowa Star Conference South Division match on Thursday over Meskwaki in three sets, 25-12, 25-15, 25-1.

With the win, the Redhawks (22-6, 7-0) clinched the South Division title.

Katie Kopriva matched a season-high with 22 kills, while Isabel Sierra had 29 assists. Takoa Kopriva was the top defender for North Tama with 10 digs, followed by Katie with six against the Warriors (14-5, 2-4). Lydia Schafer served 27-for-27 with seven aces for the Redhawks, who were 70-for-72 as a team with 19 aces.

BCLUW volleyball downs AGWSR in 4

ACKLEY — The BCLUW volleyball team got a road NICL West Division win over AGWSR on Thursday, prevailing in four sets, 21-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-20.

The Comets (17-13, 3-3) were led offensively by Easton Swanson with 21 kills, followed by Madison Ubben with nine and Ashton Bailey with eight. Cate Nason had 41 assists against the Cougars, while Kaylee Goecke had 18 digs and Swanson had 15.

AGWSR (5-15, 1-5) was led by by Taryan Barrick with 11 kills, while Makenna Kuper had eight. Rachel Sicard had 14 digs, followed by Mandy Willems, Kuper and Tori Brandt with 11 each. Willems finished with 29 assists.
