Hook named MVC’s Setter of the Year
ST. LOUIS — The postseason is just beginning for the Northern Iowa volleyball team, but one of the Panthers has already achieved new heights.
Senior setter Heather Hook has been named the Missouri Valley Conference’s Setter of the Year, the league announced on Thursday.
Hook was named to the all-MVC first team for the first time in her career after earning second-team honors in 2016. The 2013 Grundy Center High School graduate led the conference in assists for the second year in a row, racking up 1,366 assists so far this season to rank fourth in the country. Her 11.68 assists per set ranks ninth-best in the country.
Hook set UNI’s sophomore record for assists (1,417) and eventually became the sixth Panthers setter to eclipse 4,000 assists for her career.
Hook and the Panthers (25-7) earned the second seed for the MVC Tournament and will face Illinois State in a 7:30 p.m. semifinal tonight in Normal, Ill. The conference finals are Saturday at 4 p.m. and will be broadcast online at ESPN3.com.
