MCC volleyball knocked out of district tournament

COUNCIL BLUFFS — The Marshalltown Community College volleyball team ended its season on Friday with two losses in the NJCAA Division I District J Tournament, falling to Indian Hills in the first round and losing to Vincennes University in the second round of play.

The Tigers were able to take a set off the Warriors in the first game, losing in four sets, 25-18, 18-25, 25-11, 26-24.

After the loss, MCC was still in contention, as the district tournament is double-elimination, but in the second round the Tigers dropped three sets to Vincennes, 25-19, 25-21, 25-16.

MCC finishes the season at 20-16, as they went 7-5 at home and 13-11 on the road. In their conference, the Tigers finished 0-4 against Indian Hills and No. 2 Iowa Western combined. The team did improve on last season’s record of 12-22, a good accomplishment considering the Tigers boasted an all-freshman roster.
