MCC women net another OT win, defeat Ellsworth
Another Herculean effort by Loralei Siliga in overtime lifted the Marshalltown Community College women’s basketball team over Ellsworth on Tuesday night.
Siliga netted 31 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in the 67-60 overtime victory over the Panthers, her second 30-point double-double in the last three games.
Claudia Morente also scored in the double figures for the Tigers, dropping in 16 points, while MCC (4-4) as a whole shot 36 percent from the floor, compared to only 31 percent by Ellsworth (3-4).
Marshalltown head coach Steve Garber said his girls did well to pull out the victory, especially considering they were down with the clock running out.
“We showed some resillience after going down by eight in the fourth quarter,” Garber said. “Loralei stepped up big time on consecutive possessions with three point plays. Claudia then stepped up and helped to extend the lead in overtime. We shot poorly as a team but came up with the win.”
MCC won’t be back in action again until after Thanksgiving. The Tigers hit the road for Boone to take on DMACC on Tuesday.
