Running ahead of the pack

Marshalltown High School senior cross country runner Luke Pedersen, left, has received Academic All-State honors from the Iowa Association of Track Coaches. Pedersen met the requirements by maintaining at least a 3.8 grade-point average, scoring a 28 or better on the ACT and finishing in the top 30 at a state-qualifying meet. Pedersen led MHS by placing 29th while tying his best time at the Marshalltown Community College course. “Luke is very deserving of this academic all-state award for cross country,” said MHS head coach Chad Pietig, right. “He represents everything we want in our student athletes. He works just as hard at his academics as he does in his athletics and other activities, which is why he is successful in everything he does. We are very proud of his accomplishments.”
