South Tama wrestling is preseason No. 5 in 2A

The South Tama County wrestling team followed up its first state tournament absence in 28 years with back-to-back seasons of sending six wrestlers to Wells Fargo Arena.

The Trojans are expected to remain in the mix this year as well, with five wrestlers appearing in the preseason rankings.

South Tama sits fifth in the Class 2A team tournament rankings thanks to a group of five returning state qualifiers, four of which have advanced to Wells Fargo Arena in back-to-back seasons.

Defending state champion Isaac Judge, who last year became STC’s 12th titleist, is back at 152 pounds and polled first in his weight bracket. Colton Vest is ranked third at 145, Tanner Probasco is ranked fourth at 138 and Brady Fritz is seated sixth at 132.

All four STC seniors have been on the podium at least once before. Fellow senior Dalton Rosenberg, who made his first trip to state last winter, is ranked eighth at 182.

West Marshall senior Hunter Pfantz, a two-time state qualifier, is rated sixth at 120. The Trojan got onto the podium for the first time last February, finishing seventh at 113.
