Spartan’s Willis named to 2A all-tournament team
CEDAR RAPIDS — At the conclusion of the Iowa Girls’ High School State Volleyball Tournament, one area girl was honored as a top competitor in her class.
Grundy Center junior Kylie Willis was named to the Class 2A all-tournament squad on Friday night for her play in the first two rounds during the state tournament.
Willis had 20 total kills and only six errors on 48 attack attempts in the Spartans’ two games at state. She led the team with 13 kills in the quarterfinal victory over Sidney and finished second for Grundy Center offensively with seven kills against Western Christian. Willis also had two solo blocks and four block assists in the two games.
The honor just adds to a list for Willis, as she was named the NICL West Division Outstanding Player for the second-straight time earlier this month. Grundy Center brings back Willis and a host of other Spartans who contributed greatly to this year’s run to the state semifinals, a fact that already has Cedar Rapids Gazette writer Jeff Linder listing them as the top-ranked team in 2A heading to next season.
