SPORTS SHORTS: Rebels rout ACA in season opener

REINBECK — Gladbrook-Reinbeck junior Taylor Gienger matched her career-high with 23 points and the Rebel girls’ basketball team trampled Ankeny Christian Academy 68-31 in both teams’ season-opener here Tuesday night.

Maddie Frischmeyer and Saari Kuehl added 11 points apiece for Gladbrook-Reinbeck, which started last season 0-17 after falling to these same Eagles in the opener.

Haleigh Berendes chipped in six points while Megan Swanson and Madison Denny-Weber both finished with five points for G-R, which led 36-6 after the first quarter.

Kenna Laib led Ankeny Christian Academy with 12 points.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck is off until Dec. 1, when the Rebels host Grundy Center in their NICL West Division opener.

East Marshall outlasts Colfax-Mingo

LE GRAND — Olivia Terrones filled the stat sheet with team-highs of 16 points, nine assists and seven rebounds as the East Marshall girls’ basketball team tipped off the season with a 58-49 win over Colfax-Mingo here Tuesday.

Tylyn Eicher added 15 points, Melinda Puumala tallied eight points and both Madison Farrington and Kodi Hoskey had six points and five boards. Emily Terrones pitched in with three points, six assists and four steals as the Mustangs (1-0) broke a 40-all tie to start the fourth quarter by outscoring the Tigerhawks 18-9.

Mackensie Brown led Colfax-Mingo with 12 points and Payton Rhone added 10.

Ranked Roland-Story stumps BCLUW

STORY CITY — Jenna Clark scored a game-high 21 points and Kylie Tjernagel added 12 more as the Class 3A No. 8 Roland-Story girls’ basketball team beat BCLUW 72-30 on Tuesday night.

The host Norse (1-0) throttled out to a 30-2 lead after the opening quarter and coasted to the victory from there.

BCLUW (1-1) was led by eight points apiece from Lauren Anderson and Brooke Aalfs. Madison Ubben finished with six points, five rebounds and four assists, and Anderson shared the team lead with five boards as well. Easton Swanson tallied five steals for the Comets.
