Gustafson helps No. 25 Hawks hold off Drake

IOWA CITY — Megan Gustafson scored 27 points and pulled down 12 rebounds and the No. 25 Iowa women’s basketball team defeated Drake 79-66 on Thursday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

The double-double was Gustafson’s 11th this season and 39th of her career.

Makenzie Meyer matched her career high with 21 points and had seven assists, while Alexis Sevillian, moving into the starting lineup after Tania Davis’ season-ending injury on Sunday, made four 3-pointers for her 12 points for the Hawkeyes (12-1).

Becca Hittner scored a career-high 27 points for the Bulldogs (5-7) with Becca Jonas adding 12.

The Hawkeyes won their fifth in a row and have victories over Iowa’s three other Division I programs this season, including Iowa State and Northern Iowa.

“It’s important for recruiting, it’s important for state pride,” Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder said of her team’s mythical state title.
