MANHATTAN, Kan. — Northern Iowa’s Kennedy Kirkpatrick made a pair of late 3-pointers and Kansas State’s Kayla Goth missed two free throws with .1 seconds left as the Panther women’s basketball team won 72-71 in its non-conference finale Thursday at Bramlage Coliseum.

Northern Iowa led by as many as 12 points during the third quarter before Kansas State’s comeback nearly did in the Panthers (4-7). A Peyton Williams layup brought the Wildcats (8-3) to within three, 69-66, with 27 seconds left. Ellie Howell hit two free throws for the Panthers before a Karyla Middlebrook layup brought the margin back to three with 11 seconds remaining.

Northern Iowa got one free throw at the other end before Goth buried a 3-pointer, chopping the margin to one with 4 seconds left. Kansas State tied up UNI’s in-bounds pass to force a jump ball, regaining possession with .8 seconds showing.

Mikaela Morgan fouled Goth on the in-bounds play with .1 left, but the Wildcats’ leading scorer came up empty on both attempts to tie or win the game.

Kirkpatrick, a Lawrence, Kan., native, led UNI with a career-high 24 points thanks to seven 3-pointers. Morgan also scored a career-high with 18 points coming on six triples. In all the Panthers shot 16-for-31 from behind the arc.

Goth paced Kansas State with 26 points and Williams had another 21.
