UNI women fall to SDSU
BROOKINGS, S.D. — Despite a strong second half showing, the Northern Iowa women’s basketball team couldn’t overcome a slow start as the Panthers fell to South Dakota State on the road, 57-47.
The Panthers (2-3) erased a 15-point deficit to pull within a point of SDSU (6-1) with 8:12 remaining, but the Jackrabbits pushed back with a 5-0 run to regain momentum and hold on for the victory.
Megan Maahs led the Panthers on Thursday night, coming up just shy of matching her career-high with 15 points in the loss. The sophomore center also snagged seven rebounds. Freshman Karli Rucker did however earn a career-high on Thursday, after scoring eight points against the Jackrabbits.
South Dakota State was led by Madison Guebert with 16 points to lead all scorers.
UNI stays on the road for its next tilt, as it travels to take on North Dakota on Saturday at 2 p.m.
