UNI women lose to Hawks
GRAND FORKS, N.D. — The Northern Iowa women’s basketball team pushed North Dakota to its limits on Saturday afternoon, but the Panthers couldn’t claim a road victory over the Hawks after falling 80-72.
Northern Iowa (2-5) trailed by one point with 1:19 remaining in the fourth quarter, but the Hawks went on an 8-1 run to close out the game.
Senior Kennedy Kirkpatrick led the Panthers with a career-high 212 points, notching 13 of those in the first half. The guard also snagged one rebound and dished out six assists. Abby Gerrits and Heidi Hillyard joined Kirkpatrick in double figures, after each scored 10 in the game.
Lexi Klabo was the top North Dakota scorer with 29 points, and she led recorded a double-double with 15 rebounds. Fallyn Freije had 18 points for the Hawks, while Jill Morton had 16.
The Panthers cap a six-game road wing on Wednesday when they travel to take on Nebraska-Omaha, starting at 7 p.m.
