Bulldogs, Panthers prevail in Valley play

PEORIA, Ill. — The Drake women’s basketball team got 39 points from its bench in an 84-75 shootout victory over Bradley in Sunday’s Missouri Valley Conference showdown inside Renaissance Coliseum.

Maddy Dean and Sara Rhine racked up 16 and 15 points, respectively, off the bench for Drake (14-7, 9-0), which remained unbeaten in MVC play. Brenni Rose shared team-high scoring honors with 16 points, Becca Jonas added 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds, and Becca Hittner got 10 points for the Bulldogs.

Bradley (10-10, 4-5) hung around thanks to a strong shooting night from behind the arc, going 13-for-28 from distance (46 percent), but Drake’s dominance on the boards and in the lane were too much for the Braves.

Danielle Brewer made four 3-pointers and led Bradley with 20 points, and Gabi Haack added five treys and 17 points in the loss.

The Bulldogs are back at home this weekend, hosting Southern Illinois and Missouri State to start the second half of the MVC schedule.
