Fox leads Bobcats to 3rd place at Storm Invite
ELDORA — The Marshalltown wrestling team competed well enough to take home third place at the Storm Invite on Saturday, as three Bobcats made it all the way to the final match in their bracket.
Jordan Fox was the only MHS wrestler to win his bracket outright, as he took first at 195 pounds. Fox received a bye in his first round, then took out Joseph Hofbauer from Ballard in the semifinals via a second-round pin.
The finals were more competitive for Fox, but he was able to hold off Dalton Chipp from Hampton-Dumont for a 7-4 decision.
Bennett Hageman at 106 and Brian Trowbridge at 170 pounds also made the final match of their bracket, though Hageman lost to Class 1A No. 6 Brooks Meyer from Denver by a first-round pin in his final and Trowbridge fell to No. 2 Cael Krueger from Denver by a 14-3 decision.
Though not in the finals, three other Bobcats finished their days by with only one loss. Zach Bitker took third at 113, Logan Baccam at 138 and Jordan Anderson at heavyweight.
South Hardin-BCLUW placed sixth in its home tournament, with Coby Willett winning the 126 bracket by taking out Quinton Buresh from Iowa Falls-Alden in a pin right before the buzzer in the second round.
Aplington-Parkersburg/Grundy Center took eighth in the meet, led by Hunter Maitland taking third at 182.
