Lanning 1 of 7 Lombardi finalists
HOUSTON — Iowa State senior linebacker/quarterback Joel Lanning is one of seven finalists for the Lombardi Award, as announced Monday by the Lombardi Foundation.
The Lombardi Award, formerly given to defensive linemen or linebackers, is presented to a college football player — regardless of position — based on performance, leadership, character and resiliency.
Four of the seven finalists will be chosen to attend the Lombardi Honors ceremony on Saturday in Houston.
Oklahoma’s Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Baker Mayfield and fellow Heisman finalists Lamar Jackson of Louisville and Bryce Love of Stanford are joined by Penn State running back Saquon Barkley, Alabama defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick, Central Florida linebacker Shaquem Griffin and ISU’s Lanning as Lombardi finalists.
