ELDORA — The East Marshall girls’ basketball team held South Hardin scoreless for the first 7 minutes, 44 seconds, and the Mustangs never trailed in tallying their first NICL West Division win, 53-39, over South Hardin on Thursday night.

The Mustangs (4-12, 1-8) snapped their five-game win streak by beating the same team they lost to in Tuesday’s conference action. South Hardin snuck out a 41-36 win in Le Grand, but the Tigers (3-13, 2-8) couldn’t duplicate the feat.

East Marshall sophomore Olivia Terrones was the most impactful presence on the court for either team, taking control with a game-high 17 points and a handful of assists that yielded easy hoops for her teammates. Madison Farrington finished with 11 points, Tylyn Eicher added nine and Melinda Puumala chipped in eight in the Mustangs’ first league win.

“We kind of thought we played well enough to win the other night, no disrespect to South Hardin, so we didn’t really change anything for tonight,” said East Marshall head coach Greg Lee. “We wanted to move the ball around their zone and try to get it into the paint, and tonight we were bound and determined enough to get it in there.”

Kiera Anderson led South Hardin with 14 points, but she was tagged with a technical foul that accompanied her fifth foul, and East Marshall’s lead expanded to its final margin in the waning moments.
