SPORTS SHORTS: Mustangs move to 10-0 in NICL West

CONRAD — The East Marshall boys basketball team won yet another NICL West Division game on Friday by hitting the road to take down BCLUW, 73-38.

Four Mustangs (16-0, 10-0) finished in double digits, led by Zaine Leedom and Tyler DeBondt each with 15 points. Eli Anderson had 11 and Zane Johnson 10 to round out the double-digit scorers.

The Comets (3-14, 1-9) were led by Jonny Neff with 18 points.

Colo-NESCO boys hold off Wolverines

COLO — The Colo-NESCO boys basketball team earned an Iowa Star Conference South Division win over GMG at home on Friday, 70-61.

Matthew Hill led the Royals (11-6, 8-1) with 24 points, while Jacob Clatt chipped in 21 and Sean Cutler finished with 10.

Aaron Fleming had 19 for the Wolverines (6-8, 3-5), while Brayden Peterson had 10.

Trojans tackle G-R in NICL West play

STATE CENTER — The West Marshall boys basektball team moved into a tie for second place with Gladbrook-Reinbeck in the NICL West Division on Friday by downing the Rebels, 64-57.

The Trojans (12-4, 8-2) had three players in double figures, led by Peyton Pope with 16 points. Alex Dickey also had 15, while Joe Halverson had 13 points and seven rebounds.

Mason Skovgard was the top scorer for G-R (11-4, 8-2) with 19 points, followed by Caden Kickbush with 16.

Gradwell gets school-record 41 in win

STATE CENTER — The West Marshall girls basketball team won an NICL West Division conference showdown against Gladbrook-Reinbeck on Friday, 83-23.

Isabelle Gradwell set a new school record for the Trojans (13-4, 7-3) with 41 points, including nine 3-pointers. She also had seven rebounds and three assists. Karlyn Snider also had 13 points, followed by Emma Meyer with six.

Belen Ellenberger was the top scorer for the Rebels (5-12, 3-7).

East Marshall nets back-to-back wins

CONRAD — After recording its first NICL West Division win of the season on Thursday, the East Marshall girls basketball team followed that up with its second NICL West win on Friday, downing BCLUW on the road 33-31.

Kodi Hoskey led the Mustangs (5-12, 2-8) with 12 points, matching her season high, while Olivia Terrones had 10. Emily Terrones finished the game with four points, including the buzzer-beater at the end of the game to hand East Marshall the win.

Madison Ubben led the Comets (8-10, 3-7) with a game-high 19 points.

Royals rack up 6th-straight league title

COLO — The Colo-NESCO girls basketball team earned at least a share of the Iowa Star Conference South Division title on Friday night by beating GMG, 64-38.

Rylee Purvis and Emma Stalzer each had 14 points to lead the Royals (15-3, 9-0), while Faith Vincent, Lauryn Hill and Molly Barten each had eight.

Mable Dieleman and McKensie Vaske each had a game-high 16 points to lead the Wolverines (7-10, 4-6).
