SPORTS SHORTS: STC boys remain unbeaten in WaMaC
WILLIAMSBURG — The South Tama County boys basketball team earned its 10th WaMaC Conference West Division victory of the season on Tuesday by taking out Williamsburg, 59-41.
Gabe Shields had 20 points and seven rebounds to lead the Trojans (11-9, 10-0) in both categories, while Sterling Tyon had 18 in the win and Kaiden Buffalo finished with 10.
The Raiders (7-6, 4-5) only had one scorer in double figures, as Brandon Blythe led them with 11 points.
South Tama girls topple Raiders 59-43
TAMA — The South Tama County girls basketball team moved back over .500 with a WaMaC Conference West Division win over Williamsburg at home on Tuesday, 59-43.
Jessica Musgrave had a double-double of 22 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Trojans (8-7, 6-4), while Sadie Smtih had a career-high 14 points in the win over the Raiders (4-14, 4-6).
South Hardin denies East Marshall
LE GRAND — The South Hardin girls basketball team earned just its second NICL West Division on Tuesday by downing East Marshall on the road, 41-35.
Danae Nelson was the leading scorer for Tigers (3-13, 2-8) with 11 points, while Chloe Webb had eight.
The Mustangs (3-12, 0-8) were led by Tylyn Eicher with 11 points, followed by Olivia Terrones with eight.
Cougars chase off Gladbrook-Reinbeck
REINBECK — The Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls basketball team lost a non-conference home matchup against Sumner-Fredericksburg on Tuesday night, 80-30.
Taylor Gienger led the Rebels (5-11) with 13 points, while Madison Denny-Weber and Belen Ellenberger each had seven.
The Cougars (13-2) were led by Cassidy Pagel with 22 points, while Krayton Allen had 11 and Megan Niewoehner had 10.
