SPORTS SHORTS: STC remains unbeaten WaMaC West

TAMA — The South Tama County boys basketball team earned its third-straight victory on Tuesday as it knocked out WaMaC Conference West Division foe Center Point-Urbana, 50-42.

Gabe Shields had 22 points, six rebounds and five steals to lead the Trojans (9-3, 8-0) in all three categories, while Sterling Tyon dropped in four 3-pointers on his way to 14 points.

The Stormin’ Pointers (7-6, 3-5) had two boys in double figured, with Brandon Moore leading the way with 12 points and Michell McCauley following with 11.

Stormin’ Pointers tame Trojans 69-28

CENTER POINT — The South Tama County girls basketball game had a tough time on the road Tuesday night, as it fell to Class 4A No. 5 Center Point-Urbana, 69-28, in a WaMaC Conference West Division clash.

Jessica Musgrave was the only girl in double figures for the Trojans (6-7, 4-4), as the senior scored 12 points and finished just shy of a double-double with nine rebounds. Tylese Rosenberger was next on the team with six points.

Olivia Brecht led the Stormin’ Pointers (13-2, 7-1) with 18 points, followed by Callyn Fox with 16 and Karly Millikin with nine.

Warriors blast Baxter in Iowa Star play

BAXTER — The Meskwaki girls basketball team earned a win in the Iowa Star Conference South Division on Tuesday with a 59-27 thrashing of Baxter on the road.

Tori Lasley and Abigail Iron Shell each scored 16 points for the Warriors (7-6, 6-5), with Lasley also hauling in 15 rebounds for a double-double and Iron Shell recording eight steals. Delicia Guevara had 13 points as well, while Jaylee Moore pulled down 12 rebounds and dished out six assists.

The Bolts (1-12, 1-6) had no girls in double figures on the day, as Sailor Hinegardner and Holly Jessen each had six points to lead the way in scoring.
