UNI awards Petersen with 2-year extension
CEDAR FALLS — Northern Iowa has awarded head volleyball coach Bobbi Petersen a two-year contract extension, keeping her at the helm of the Panther program through Dec. 31, 2024.
Petersen guided UNI to the school’s 21st NCAA Tournament berth in 2017, reaching the second round with a win over Louisville before falling to Minnesota. Northern Iowa compiled a record of 27-9 and led the nation in four statistical categories: kills per set (15.24) and total assists (1,857), digs (2,581) and kills (1,997).
“Panther volleyball has achieved a standard of excellence in all aspects of the program and that is a direct result of the efforts of head coach Bobbi Petersen,” UNI Director of Athletics David Harris said. “From academics and community service all the way to national prominence on the floor — Panther volleyball, is one of the nation’s best. We are extremely happy to reward Bobbi with a two-year extension and look forward to many more successful years under her leadership.”
For the past 12 years, the NCAA has recognized teams in the top 10 percent of the Academic Progress Report, and the UNI volleyball team has been on that list each year. The Panthers have been recipients of the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Team Academic Award each of the past six seasons.
Petersen ranks 10th among active coaches with a .766 winning percentage thanks to an overall record of 461.141. She is one of only four Missouri Valley Conference coaches to have surpassed the 400-win mark.
“I am so blessed and thankful for the privilege to lead this program that has so much history and tradition,” said Petersen, a Dike native.
