Marshalltown girls fall to Johnston, 9-2
The Marshalltown girls tennis team fell to CIML Iowa Conference foe Johnston on Thursday at home, 9-2.
It was a tough outing against the Dragons (4-2, 1-2), as the Bobcats (3-3, 2-1) were swept 6-0 in the singles sets. Kaitlyn Martin had a close contest at No. 2 singles against Julia Heil, falling 6-4, 6-2, while Acacia Brown at No. 5 singles lost to Katie Uitenbroek, 7-5, 6-1.
The doubles matches were a closer competition, as Johnston still came away with the advantage but only three matches to two.
Sarah Jacobs and Brown earned a dramatic win against Betsy Heisen and Uitenbroek at No. 3 doubles, winning 6-4, 4-6, (10-3). Olivia Brintnall and America Dominquez got the other win for the Bobcats, handling Elizabeth Hurn and Jordan Durst at No. 5, 6-0, 6-2.
Marshalltown is back in action tonight when it heads to take on Cedar Falls, starting at 4 p.m.
