Podhajsky’s win powers ’Cats to 5th at Tiger Invite

CEDAR FALLS — The Marshalltown girls track team traveled to compete in the Tiger Invational on Tuesday, where it came away in fifth place with a team score of 47, just one point ahead of Mason City in sixth.

Jill Podhajsky won her first event of the season by placing first in the discus with a heave of 101 feet, 9 inches. Grace Metzger finished fourth in the discus as well with a toss of 98-4.

Other individual highlights for the Bobcats included Erica Johnson taking fifth in the 400-meter hurdles, Tana Underhill placing fourth in the 3,000, Sara Trowbridge taking sixth in the 100, Kierra Gardner placing sixth in the 200, Odaly Flores taking sixth in the 800 and Regan Mazour placing sixth in the high jump.

Two hurdle teams placed in the top three as well, with the 4×100 team of Gardner, Abbey Welden, Grace Collins and Mazour taking third and the shuttle hurdle relay of Gabby Himes, Beyoncé Corona, Aida Almanza and Johnson also taking third.
