NEWTON, Kan. — South Tama County graduate Paige Van Dyk closed her collegiate golf career with an even-par round of 72 on the third and final day of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, helping the Northern Iowa women’s team climb to second place in the final standings on Tuesday at Sand Creek Station Golf Course.

Van Dyk, a two-time Class 3A state golf champion at South Tama, tied for 10th place in the individual standings with her three-day total of 85-70-72–227. Northern Iowa entered the final round in sixth place before climbing four spots for the runner-up spot, matching the best result in school history (1983, 1985, 1986, 2002).

The Panthers shot a 285 on the final day for a 901 total, but could not catch Missouri State (887) for the team title.

Van Dyk’s final collegiate round of golf included a little bit of everything, as she racked up five birdies, an eagle and two double bogeys. She was the second-best finisher for UNI in the tournament, trailing teammate Hannah Bermel (225) by two strokes.
