3 meet champs for MHS at Fort Dodge

FORT DODGE — The Marshalltown boys’ track and field team crowned three meet champions in three different disciplines on its way to a fifth-place finish at Fort Dodge’s Dodger Relays on Monday night.

The Bobcats got one individual champion on the track in Bennett O’Hare, who won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 6.56 seconds; one field event champion in Lucas Duff, who won the discus with a heave of 113 feet; and one relay winner in the 4×400, as the quartet of O’Hare, Deonte Dean, Gabe Wyant and Josh Melde combined for a triumphant time of 3:42.09.

O’Hare led teammate Brent Johnson to the tape in the 800 as Johnson finished fourth in 2:15.98, while Duff was joined in the discus field by teammate Jordan Anderson’s fifth-place finish at 104-11. Duff also scored points for seventh place in the shot put (40-10).

To go with three meet champions, the Bobcats also scored a trio of silver-medal performances. Braden Bethke was second in the 100 (11.97), Luke Pedersen was second in the 1,600 (4:56.83) and the Bobcats’ distance medley foursome of Wyant, Dylan Eygabroad, Brian Trowbridge and Conner Beaty came away as runners-up in a time of 4:04.42.

Marshalltown also benefitted from a pair of placewinners in the 110 high hurdles, as Tyler Reeder was fourth in 16.85 and Giorgio Diiorio scored sixth in 17.91.

Wyatt Himes brought in fifth place in the 400 with a season-best time of 56.17, while Bennett Hageman came away sixth in the 3,200 (11:58.03).

Des Moines East was the meet champion with 155.5 points, followed by a tie between Fort Dodge and Boone for second place with 112.5 points. Mason City (102) and Marshalltown (91.5) finished comfortably in fourth and fifth positions, respectively, with Manson-Northwest Webster (66), Fort Dodge St. Edmond (62) and Waterloo East (19) rounding out the field.

The Bobcats are back on the track Thursday, visiting Mason City for the CIML Iowa Conference Invitational starting at 4 p.m.
