Bobcat girls steamroll Railsplitters

DES MOINES — The Marshalltown girls tennis team traveled down to take on Des Moines Lincoln in a dual on Thursday, and the Bobcats came away with a 9-0 victory in the rain-shortened event.

Due to weather concerns, MHS and the Railsplitters played only one super-set for each match. In singles competition, Emily Miller at No. 1 and Kaitlyn Martin at No. 2 both swept aside their opponents, taking 10-0 wins over H’ser Thaw and Angel Tiengkham, respectively.

Sarah Jacobs, playing at No. 3 singles instead of her usual spot at No. 4, was close to a sweep as well with a 10-2 victory over Natalie Gonzalez. Acacia Brown also took a 10-2 victory over Raelyn Davis at No. 4 singles.

Only three of the doubles matches were able to play, as Nos. 3 and 5 doubles were held off due to the incoming rain. Miller and Martin continued their stellar play from the singles matches with a 10-2 victory over Thaw and Tiengkham at No. 1 doubles, while America Doninquez and Julieta Cano also won 10-2 at No. 5 doubles over Hailey Garcia and Camilla Murillo. Jacobs and Brown rounded out the doubles victories with a 10-3 win at No. 2 doubles over Gonzalez and Davis.

Next up on the schedule the Bobcats head to Cedar Rapids this morning to play in the Cedar Rapids Prairie Invitational, starting at 9 a.m.
