Lincoln overtakes MHS girls’ soccer team, 3-1

McKenna Major

DES MOINES — The Marshalltown girls soccer team lost a road match to Des Moines Lincoln on Tuesday, 3-1.

Bobcats senior McKenna Major scored just the second goal of the season for MHS (0-12), finding the back of net in the 39th minute to send the game into halftime tied at 1-1.

Naomi Boland got the start in goal for Marshalltown, recording 11 saves in the loss. MHS head coach Stacy Galema said the team was missing five regular starters, but they still showed well against the Railsplitters (6-6).

“It was a good battle but being short staffed and playing back-to-back games, especially as competitive as they were, is quite a task,” Galema said. “Hopefully we can regroup, get some girls back and have a good showing on Friday.”

Marshalltown is back in action on Friday when it hosts Des Moines North for senior night, starting at 6:15 p.m. at Leonard Cole Field.
