MCC’s Roth signs with NAIA Hastings College
Former Marshalltown Community College women’s basketball player Alyssa Roth has signed a National Letter of Intent with National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics member Hastings College in Hastings, Neb.
Roth was the second-leading scorer for the Tigers last season, averaging 13.1 points per game to finish second in the Iowa Community College Athletic College scoring, behind teammate Loralei Siliga. She developed well as a deep threat in her sophomore campaign as well, going from 30 percent from behind the 3-point line in 2016-17 to 35.5 percent in 2017-18.
“After spending two years at MCC, Alyssa has worked her way into an excellent opportunity to continue her basketball experiences at a very successful program at Hastings,” Marshalltown head coach Steve Garber said. “Her ability to provide scoring from the wing area will be a strength that Alyssa brings to the floor to help continue Hastings success for the next two years. We will look for good things from Alyssa moving forward into her new environment.”
Hastings College has a 120-44 record in the last five years under head coach Jina Douglas, and last season the Broncos went 26-7 while making it to the quarterfinals NAIA National Tournament.
“I just want to thank MCC for everything they have done to put me in the position to play at the next level,” Roth said. “I’d like to thank Coach Garber for helping me grow as a player and a person these past two years. I am very excited about playing for Hastings under Coach Douglas and her staff. I look forward to the future opportunities I will have being there as a student.”
