SPORTS SHORTS: West Marshall takes care of Hawks

STATE CENTER — The West Marshall baseball team won an non-conference game against Lynnville-Sully on Tuesday, 7-1.

Nat Markle earned the win for the Trojans (9-6), pitching 6 2/3 innings and allowing five hits and one run while striking out three. Jake Stojohann came in for the final out in the seventh inning.

Jake Tollefson knocked down two hits and scored two runs for West Marshall, while Parker Hulbert had a hit and two RBIs and Ryan Reyerson had a two-RBI double. Cameron Bannister also had a double and scored three runs.

Next up the Trojans host AGWSR for an NICL West Division showdown tonight, starting with the completion of a suspended game between the two squads from earlier this season at 5:30 p.m.

Trojans can’t catch up to Lynnville-Sully

STATE CENTER — The West Marshall softball team lost a non-conference game against Lynnville-Sully on Tuesday, 8-5.

Grace Porter took the loss for the Trojans (6-6), allowing seven hits and three earned runs in 2 1/3 innings pitched. Loran Nicholson finished out the the final 4 2/3 innings, giving up four hits and three runs, only one earned.

Renae Schaper had a perfect 3-for-3 line at the plate, knocking down a double and driving in a run, while Kayla Cripps finished 2-for-2 with a run scored, an RBI and stole two bases.

West Marshall will be back on the diamond for an NICL West Division game against Gladbrook-Reinbeck at home tonight, starting at 7:45 p.m.
