MCC men’s soccer blanks Blackhawks
BURLINGTON — The Marshalltown Community College soccer team bounced back strong from their first loss of the season last weekend with a huge 11-0 outburst against Southeastern Community College on Wednesday.
Rafael Vacas had a hat trick to pace the Tigers (6-1, 1-1) while Jiroh Hatano and Augusto Cunha both scored twice.
Joel Serrano had a good outing in his return between the posts for MCC, recording saves on each of the Blackhawks’ (0-6, 0-2) five shots on goal.
“It was very good to see our team’s attitude take over the game,” Tiger head coach Rafael Martinez said. “We started a little slow and inaccurate but as soon as the first goal went in, the team settled and started playing the way we can. I am very happy with how everyone went into the game and added their part to give ourselves a good and needed victory. We now focus on the next challenge. I hope we have a good turnout at home on Saturday and give our people a performance they can be proud of.”
MCC returns to the pitch on Saturday when it hosts NJCAA No. 17 Iowa Western on Saturday for a big Iowa Community College Athletic Conference showdown.
