SPORTS SHORTS: Bobcat swimmers sunk by Dragons
JOHNSTON — The Marshalltown girls swimming team lost a dual to Johnston on Tuesday, 131-55.
Two Bobcats came away with event wins on the night. Shakira Herrera took first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1 minute, 3.5 seconds, while Taylor Hrabak finished first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 58.86 seconds, her fastest time of the season.
Hrabak also finished second individually in the 200 freestyle, while Klaudia Hernandez took second in the 100 breaststroke and Sami Trowbridge placed second on the diving board.
Up next the Bobcats host Grinnell on Thursday at the high school.
GMG netters notch win over Crusaders
GARWIN — The GMG volleyball team won an Iowa Star Conference South Division game over Valley Lutheran on Tuesday in straight sets, 25-10, 25-9, 25-13.
Jordan Yilek and Emily Vaughn each led the Wolverines (3-7, 1-0) with five kills on the night, while Tory Novotny had three kills.
Yilek also had 11 assists to lead the way, and GMG had 25 total aces against the Crusaders (0-9, 0-1).
Rebels sweep aside AGWSR at the net
ACKLEY — The Gladbrook-Reinbeck volleyball team earned another win in NICL West Division play on Tuesday with a three-set sweep over AGWSR, 25-10, 25-7, 26-24.
Saari Kuehl led the way with 19 kills for the Rebels (13-4, 2-1), while Haleigh Berendes had six kills and Meriah Wittgreve had five.
Madison Denny-Weber had 30 assists against the Cougars (3-9, 0-2), while Alyssa Morgan had seven digs and Kuehl finished with six.
