SPORTS SHORTS: Redhawks romp past Baxter in 3 sets
TRAER — The Class 1A No. 5 North Tama volleyball team earned an Iowa Star Conference South Division win over Baxter on Tuesday in straight sets, 25-4, 25-15, 25-15.
Katie Kopriva had 12 kills to lead the Redhawks (15-4, 3-0), followed by Karly Jans with seven and Abby DeBoef with six.
Isabel Sierra and Grace Thorsen split the setting duties well with 14 and 12 assists respectively, while Takoa Kopriva had 17 digs to lead North Tama defensively. Alexis Hansen had two solo blocks as well to help the defensive effort against the Bolts (5-6, 1-1).
STC volleyball falls to Williamsburg
WILLIAMSBURG — The South Tama County volleyball team lost a WaMaC Conference West Division match to Williamsburg in straight sets, 25-20, 25-18, 25-20.
Madison Rohach had seven kills to pace the Trojans (4-15, 0-4), while Jaelin Berger and Stacey Slaven each had five.
Katie Campbell was the top facilitator with 20 assists, while Ashlynn Ellenbecker had 11 digs, Rohach 10 and Campbell nine against the Raiders (12-10, 2-1).
Wild fall to Blues in NHL preseason
DES MOINES — Tyler Bozak scored twice in a 27-second span to push the St. Louis Blues past the Minnesota Wild in an NHL preseason game played in front of more than 14,000 fans at Wells Fargo Arena.
Sammy Blais had a power-play goal, and Ville Husso made 23 saves for the Blues.
Brennan Menell and Justin Kloos scored for the Wild, and Alex Stalock stopped 26 shots.
