Hockenson, Hooker add more All-America honors

IOWA CITY — University of Iowa tight end T.J. Hockenson has been named a first-team All-American and safety Amani Hooker a second-team All-American by the America Football Coaches Association and USA Today.

Hockenson, a redshirt sophomore from Chariton, Iowa, was previously named a second-team All-American by the Walter Camp Foundation, The Associated Press and the Football Writers Association of America.

Hockenson was the recipient of the John Mackey Award for the top tight end in the nation, as well as the Ozzie Newsome Award for the top tight end in the country as chosen by the Touchdown Club of Columbus, Ohio. He was also named the Kwalick-Clark Big Ten Tight End of the Year and earned first-team all-Big Ten honors from the Big Ten media and the AP.

Hockenson leads Iowa with 46 receptions for 717 yards and six receiving touchdowns, as well as a rushing touchdown.

Hooker was named the Tatum-Woodson Defensive Back of the Year in the Big Ten and earned first-team all-Big Ten honors from the league coaches, media and the AP. He was also a second-team All-American as chosen by the AP.

Hooker ranks second on the team in tackles with 59, he shares the team lead and ranks second in the Big Ten with four interceptions for 60 yards and leads the team with seven pass break-ups.
