Child car seat checks return

Marshalltown Police Officer Casee Veren, at left, and Marshall County Sheriff’s Deputy Sgt. Ben Veren, conduct child car safety seat checks, during a previous year’s child car seat safety event. The Marshalltown Police Department and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office will once again be conducting safety checks from 12-5 p.m. Sunday, June 25 in the parking lot of Fareway, 102 W. Anson St. The purpose of this event is to help reduce the incidence of improper installation of car seats. Certified car seat safety technicians will provide a free evaluation to ensure proper use, installation and compliance with Iowa law of a child seat. New seats will be available if a replacement is required. The new seats were purchased with money donated by Marshalltown City Councilman Al Hoop in memory of his wife, Donna, who was an advocate of child safety. Photo identification is required and the child must be present in vehicle. Participants should bring their owner’s manual and car seat owner’s manual for reference. For more information or to schedule an inspection on another day, contact Sgt. Veren at 641-754-6380, or MPD Lt. Rick Bellile at 641-754-5725.
