A patriotic performance

Country singer Shane Owens stopped by the American Legion and the Marshall County Freedom Rock in Marshalltown Friday, after he was moved by an email sent to him by American Legion Post 46 Commander Randy Kessler. Kessler said Owens’ hit song, “19,” which tells the story of a local football star signing up for the military straight out of high school following the terror attacks on Sept. 11, and who in the end pays the ultimate sacrifice, reminded him of the story of Marshalltown’s Darwin Judge, who was one of the last two American casualties of the Vietnam War.
